1st stage Web Design & Development
Course overview
The 1st stage of the Web Design & Development course deals with both creative and technical aspects of producing interactive media. For this unique and very complete program, we have carefully selected topics that will enable you to focus on creativity in digital communication. At the end of the 1st stage you will have a practical and theoretical understanding of how computer graphics, web design techniques and interactive media can enhance and assist in digital creativity. Successful completion of the 1st stage of the Web Design & Development course is awarded with the SAE Institute Web Design & Development Diploma and entitles students to continue to the 2nd stage, the Bachelor Degree.
You will learn Web Design and Development theory, and using the tools and tricks of the industry, apply these concepts to the production process.
Individual practical time and experimentation are essential components of the course. When lectures are not running, you will have access to the SAE facilities and tutors are on hand throughout the day to answer questions, solve problems or to give advice.
The combination of active experimentation, creative development, selective curricula and qualitative teaching methods give students the knowledge and skills required by a successful professional working in this fast-changing industry.

Theory lectures

Introduction to Computing and Media
This unit familiarizes students with the versatility and diversity of multimedia applications linked to contemporary personal computing from both consumer and professional perspectives.

Web development
The fourth and final trimester goes beneath the surface and enables the student to execute their ideas technically and create dynamic web pages.

Note: The sections outlined above do not exist as separate modules within the course and do not necessarily reflect the order in which these subjects are taught.
Assessment method
Practical:
- students submit a number of prescribed practical exercises throughout the course
- students undertake several substantial interactive media (web) projects , within the guidelines set by the college
- students sit a final practical examination
Theoretical:
- students sit theoretical progress examination at regular intervals over the duration of the course
- students submit a written diploma assignment on a subject of the student's choice (subjecs must be approved by SAE Academic Staff)
- students sit a final theory examination
